Taking Care of Tooth Decay: Fillings in Alpharetta, GA

If you have had a cavity filled before, you're not alone. Tooth decay affects more than 90% of adults over the age of 40 - a stunning statistic that, in many cases, is entirely preventable. At Merchants Walk Dental, we use composite resin fillings to keep our patient's teeth healthy and functional. Unlike amalgam fillings, composite fillings are more discreet, match the color of your teeth, and are free of mercury.

While fillings can have a few uses, our doctors typically use fillings to "fill" a part of your tooth that is decaying. This hole of decay is called a cavity. Sometimes, fillings are also used to fix broken, cracked, or worn-down teeth from grinding and nail-biting. Fillings are a great way to restore decaying teeth to their normal shape and function while preventing sensitivity and inhibiting further decay.

During your dental exam at our office in East Cobb, your dental hygienist will check for signs of cavities and tooth decay to ensure your oral hygiene remains in peak condition.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Union members at a metro Atlanta Amazon facility went on strike Thursday morning after they say Amazon ignored requests to negotiate a new contract.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters said Amazon delivery drivers around the country went on strike around 6 a.m. The unionized members of the DGT8 delivery station in Alpharetta joined the strike.

The Teamsters said Amazon missed its Dec. 15 bargaining deadline.

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said, “We gave Amazon a clear deadline to come to the table and do right by our members. They ignored it.”

The group is demanding higher pay, hazard pay, better working conditions, higher-quality equipment and winter coats during cold delivery days.

The Teamsters said workers at eight Amazon facilities have approved strikes and that it is the largest ever against the company.

They claim Amazon has illegally refused to recognize or bargain with its unionized workers.

“This is why we joined the Teamsters in the first place,” said Gregory Dunn, a worker at the Alpharetta delivery station. “If we don’t fight Amazon’s greed now, they’ll think they can get away with anything.”

“It’s kind of a solidarity thing,” said Aaron Nipper, another employee who was among the first to organize the strike.

“The job gets almost impossible to do around the holidays so it makes sense that, you know, people would be feeling that way,” said Nipper. “I sure hope that they come to the table, you know. I mean, that’s all we’re really asking for.”

The strike could interrupt the busy holiday season. Nik Osadchiy, a supply chain expert with Emory University, said consumers may begin seeing the impact immediately upon the strike.

“That’s going to cause delays to consumers,” he warned. “There are going to be no packages delivered, at least by those drivers who are a part of the union. The question now for Amazon as they negotiate with these workers on strike is: what other options do they have to fulfill their orders?”

“If your package is delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed,” O’Brien said. “These greedy executives had every chance to show decency and respect for the people who make their obscene profits possible. Instead, they’ve pushed workers to the limit and now they’re paying the price. This strike is on them.”

Amazon on Wednesday claimed many of the drivers going on strike were independently contracted to drive for the company, and “we do not have an obligation to bargain with non-Amazon employees,” one Amazon representative told Atlanta News First.

But the Teamsters disagreed, pointing to a decision from the National Labor Relations Board decision earlier this year that found Amazon contract drivers in Palmdale, California were in fact “joint employees” partially working for Amazon.

In a previous statement, Amazon fired back, accusing the Teamsters of unlawful behavior.

The Teamsters have continued to intentionally mislead the public — claiming that they represent ‘thousands of Amazon employees and drivers.’ They don’t, and this is another attempt to push a false narrative about the independent small businesses who deliver on our behalf,” Amazon spokesperson Eileen Hards said. “The truth is that the Teamsters have actively threatened, intimidated, and attempted to coerce Amazon employees and third-party drivers to join them, which is illegal and is the subject of multiple pending unfair labor practice charges. — Amazon

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is the country’s largest union, representing about 1.3 million employees in several industries — especially freight drivers and warehouse workers.
